BAFL 2020: A NEW APPROACH

Hi BAFL artists! This year requires a bit of rolling with the punches and we’re ready to do so with you by augmenting our regularly scheduled BAFL Art Market. This year, inst­­ead of participating at a physical market, we created the NAH Virtual Art Auction (here) and the BAFL Bundles for getting your wares to patrons and supporters.

As you know, we’ve already done pretty good drumming up traffic for BAFL Market attendees and buyers: this year we are starting early, and moving the whole market online. We are asked every year by local papers where the best place to purchase local art online is. So far we’ve had but a few good answers: this year we’re ready with the best answer ever:

YOUR ART COMMISSIONED AS PART OF A NAH CURATED GIFT BAG

The BAFL Bundle is a NAH curated gift-bag including 4-7 awesome pieces ranging from a $10-$75 value that will be available for sale in the online BAFL Art Market Store during the dates between Thanksgiving weekend and December 12th. The final price of the bundle will be established based on on the value of the combined content of the bag, will be purchased off of the NAH BAFL Art Market Store, and delivered to local buyers by NAH Staff. Artists should participate only if they are willing to recreate their piece/object/product up to 20 times by December 16th, 2020.

WHAT'S THE PROCESS?

Timeline:

The process for having your favorite piece included in the BAFL Bundle is pretty straight forward:

1. Register Below.

2. Receive notification of inclusion.

3. Submit your piece so we can photograph it.

4. Make 19 other pieces.

5. Receive word from us of how many of those 19 we need.

6. Drop remaining thems off with us in Newport.

7. We do the rest!

Keep the remaining pieces and sell them at your leisure. If we need more than 20 we’ll be happy to ask you if making more pieces is possible 🙂

November 16th, 2020: Notification.

Receive notification from NAH BAFL Bundle Staff about inclusion in BAFL Bundle.

November 24th-December 12th: BAFL Bundles available online.

BAFL Bundle awarded art patrons and supporters through the Newport Art House BAFL Market 2020 Shop.

December 14th: Notification of artistic inventory needed.

Artists will receive notification of numbers of duplicates needed to fulfill BAFL Bundle awards. 

December 15th: Packaging day.

NAH Staff on hand all day to receive BAFL Bundle components for packaging and distribution and invoices.

December 18th: Invoice day.

BAFL Bundle participating artists receive payment. 

PARTICIPATION COSTS:

GUIDELINES:

There is no cost to register your interest in participating in the BAFL Bundles. Instead we are using a retail-inspired model. We will ask you the market value of your piece and retain 40% of the donated amount, giving artists 60%. This is a lower fee than traditional retail of a 50/50 split.

Newport Art House will take care of all marketing, packaging, and delivery of your goods to donors and art patrons. In addition we will be sharing BAFL Bundle Artists Stories for all participating artists, which will include linking to their business handles.

Your submission should be able to fit in a 12″ square box or smaller.

Your submission should be able to be nearly identically reproduced up to 20 times.

You are able to create 20 of said submission by December 15th, 2020.

We encourage the use of branded boxes and tags with your submission! We will prioritize items that fit the curated aesthetic we have established for this years BAFL offerings, see the “Vibe Guidelines” below.

A card will be included in the BAFL Bundle, including a list of participating Bundle artists.

NAH Staff will prioritize participants who follow the vibe guidelines below, aesthetically. We will also be prioritizing artists who have both instagram, facebook, and web-presences.

All participants in the BAFL Bundles will be part of our artist highlights for the duration of the winter season.

VIBE GUIDELINES:

We are putting together 3-5 separate BAFL Bundles curated with cheeky and bright names. Some dream/working name bundles we have in mind are:

Catch me Outside (salves, knits, small outdoorsy sculptures, visual art).

For Your Eyes Only (prints, cards, candles, visual art, etc.).

These Four Walls (primarily prints, framed visual art piece, small shelf/innovative hanging).

All bundles will be accompanied by a card with theme explanation, artist information, and a local playlist of music from local artists.

Our visual message is: Bright, bouncy, cheeky, modern. Think neon and cream, graphic, high contrast, new.
